of Nekounam, (Session 28)
Surah Al-Fatiha, as the Opening of the Book and the Mother of the Quran, is not merely the gateway to the Holy Quran but also the key to unlocking the treasures of the Divine Throne. This Surah holds an unparalleled position within the ontological and epistemological system, serving as the Master Key that guides humanity towards divine gnosis and boundless mercy. This work, focusing on the interpretation of Surah Al-Fatiha from both scientific and mystical perspectives, explores its metaphysical, functional, and spiritual dimensions. The structure of the work is designed to present a systematic and suitable approach for specialised audiences, revealing the depth of the Surahs teachings with a refined and academic language while preserving the original contents fidelity.
The interpretation of Surah Al-Fatiha in this treatise adopts a selective methodology that focuses on issues of significance, advantage, or conceptual challenge. Instead of reiterating existing exegetical material, it addresses topics requiring deeper contemplation and offers fresh perspectives on Quranic knowledge.
Key Point: The selective approach in interpreting Surah Al-Fatiha, concentrating on challenging subjects, fosters scientific innovation and avoids redundant repetition.
This approach reflects a commitment to deepening Quranic analyses. Given the vastness of exegetical sources, selecting pivotal topics enhances the scholarly value of the research and invites investigators to explore hidden layers of meaning.
A comprehensive examination of all narrations and exegeses related to Surah Al-Fatiha requires considerable time due to the extensive resources. Therefore, focusing on particular and necessary matters is an unavoidable necessity.
Key Point: Prioritisation in Quranic studies, through selective topic choice, ensures efficient use of time and depth of analysis.
Some narrations about Surah Al-Fatiha, while possessing a clear concept, do not have meanings that are easily comprehensible. The statements must be understandable and possess both concept and meaning, avoiding ambiguity or silence.
Key Point: Differentiating between concept (apparent understanding) and meaning (profound comprehension) in the narrations of Surah Al-Fatiha invites scholars to reflect on deeper esoteric layers.
This challenge highlights the necessity of employing philosophical and mystical analytical tools to uncover the latent meanings of the narrations. The narrations of Surah Al-Fatiha can be categorised into two groups: those with explicit expression and comprehensible meanings, and those ambiguous enough to require interpretative exegesis.
The challenging narrations concerning Surah Al-Fatiha, found in both Shia and Sunni sources such as Tafsir Nur al-Thaqalayn (Volume 1, p. 6) and Bihar al-Anwar, have been less explicated due to their conceptual complexity.
Key Point: Citing authoritative Shia and Sunni sources enhances the credibility of narrations, yet the lack of comprehensive elucidation indicates the need for renewed scholarly efforts.
"Indeed, the Opening of the Book is the noblest of all treasures in the Divine Throne."
This statement possesses a clear concept; however, its precise meaning requires interpretation due to the ambiguity surrounding the nature of the Throne and its treasures.
Key Point: Surah Al-Fatiha, as the noblest treasure of the Throne, occupies the apex of the ontological system and necessitates profound contemplation of the concepts of the Throne and its treasures.
The Throne represents the receptacle of Gods external determinations in action, in contrast to Divine knowledge, which is an intrinsic and essential determination. Knowledge is the essence of God Himself, while the Throne is His lordly action encompassing all created manifestations.
Key Point: The Throne, as the intermediary between Divine Essence and creation, is the vessel of lordly determinations in which Surah Al-Fatiha holds a special status.
From a philosophical viewpoint, the Throne mediates between essential unity and the multiplicity of creation. The Footstool (Kursi) is subject to the Thrones dominion, while the heavens and the earth are subject to the Footstool.
"His Footstool encompasses the heavens and the earth."
"The Merciful established Himself above the Throne."
The Throne is the manifestation of the comprehensive name Allah and Divine Mercy, which incorporates Surah Al-Fatiha as the key to mercy.
The realities of the Throne divide into two categories:
Lordly Determinations serve as existential principles of beings, while Real Keys act as instruments of actualisation, emphasising Surah Al-Fatihas role as the Master Key.
Key Point: Surah Al-Fatiha, as the Master Key, holds superiority over the lordly determinations and real keys and is the key to the opening of all realms.
Bismillhir-Ramnir-Ram is the first and most complete key, the key to Surah Al-Fatiha and all other keys. This phrase, as the greatest Divine Name, marks the commencement of the act of creation and mercy.
Key Point: Bismillh ir-Ramn ir-Ram, as the Master Key, is the axis of all the functions of Surah Al-Fatiha and the gateway to Divine mercy.
The ambiguity surrounding the independent and exalted status of Bismillh outside the Surahs (the one hundred and fifteenth Bismillh) signifies its sovereign role as the master key in the Quranic system.
"By Him in Whose Hand my soul is, God has not revealed anything like it in the Torah, the Gospel, the Psalms, or the Quran."
"The Divine favour has been granted exclusively to me through the Opening of the Book."
Except for Solomon (Peace be upon him), who was granted Bismillh, no prophet or angel shares this privilege.
Solomon (Peace be upon him) governed all affairs by Bismillh ir-Ramn ir-Ram, with jinn and mankind at his command.
Key Point: Bismillh in Solomons possession was the instrument of dominion over the universe, highlighting its role as the key to Divine power.
"A healing for what is in the breasts."
Reciting Surah Al-Fatiha seventy times soothes pains and may restore the spirit to the afflicted individual, provided it is accompanied by intention, awareness, and a spiritual physician.
Key Point: Surah Al-Fatiha, when recited seventy times with spiritual intent, brings both physical and spiritual healing.
If Surah Al-Fatiha cannot cure an illness, no other Surah can. This exclusivity establishes it as the comprehensive source of existential healing.
Surah Al-Fatiha is the key to understanding the Holy Quran. The entire Quran is encapsulated within Bismillh, which itself is summarised at the letter beneath the B (ب).
Key Point: Surah Al-Fatiha, as the Master Key of the Quran, is the gateway to understanding Quranic knowledge and the axis of the Quranic system.
Surah Al-Fatiha elevates humanity to the rank of Ilm Ladun (direct Divine knowledge) and the Collective Station, where mastery over what was, what is, and what will be (past, present, and future) becomes possible.
Key Point: Surah Al-Fatiha is a self-sufficient source of Ilm Ladun and the gateway to the Collective Station that leads to human perfection.
The oneness of Surah Al-Fatiha connects it to the seal of the Prophet (Peace be upon him and his family). While prophets stand at the rank of unity, Surah Al-Fatiha occupies the rank of oneness.
