This present book, with a focus on verses 9 to 11 of Surah Al-Anfal, elucidates the unparalleled position of the Holy Quran in guiding, purifying, and empowering humanity. These verses, examined from a profound and multifaceted perspective, portray the dynamic relationship between the servant and the Lord in the form of supplication, divine response, the descent of angels, and the spiritual and practical effects of rain. This writing, by reflecting upon the human bond with the Holy Quran, emphasises the necessity of intimate engagement with this celestial scripture and introduces it not merely as a devotional source but as an operational and transformative force. Accordingly, employing eloquent and dignified language, an endeavour has been made to clarify the lofty Quranic concepts in a clear and comprehensive manner for the readership.
Supplication, meaning the request for help in a state of helplessness and urgency, is one of the central concepts of verse nine of Surah Al-Anfal. This verse illustrates a dynamic and reciprocal relationship between the servant and the Lord, where the human being, at the height of need, seeks refuge at the Divine threshold and God responds with a generous acceptance.
When you sought help from your Lord, and He responded to you: Indeed, I will reinforce you with a thousand angels following one another.
The word murdifn in this verse denotes continuity and succession in providing aid, as though the angels of God move towards the believers in orderly and uninterrupted waves. This continuity is a sign of the grandeur and organisation of the Divine system in supporting the servants. Sincere supplication opens a gateway for the human heart to the boundless mercy of God, and Gods response, like a pure rain, quenches the soul and spirit.
The descent of a thousand angels, referenced in the verse, signifies not only practical assistance but also spiritual and psychological support. These angels, descending in continuous and organised succession, resemble a heavenly army aiding the believers against hardships and adversities. This image is akin to a caravan of light illuminating the path for the faithful in difficult darkness.
The Holy Quran, as the Book of Guidance, is not merely a source for worship but an operational force for comprehensive human transformation. This celestial book, like a bubbling spring, fulfils the spiritual, psychological, and social needs of mankind. One who forms an intimate connection with the Holy Quran never experiences deficiency or loneliness, for this book is a loyal companion at every moment.
The Quran possesses such power that if placed upon a stone, it would cleave it, and if inscribed upon the human heart, it compels Gabriel (peace be upon him) to humility. This power stems from the Divine nature and the revealed status of the Holy Quran, which, like a shining sun, dispels the darkness of ignorance and folly.
As stated in the verse, And there is no wet nor dry [thing] but it is in a clear Book (Surah Al-Anam, verse 59), the Holy Quran encompasses everything. This comprehensiveness renders the Quran an unparalleled source to meet all human needs. This book, like an endless ocean, contains everything necessary for human guidance and felicity.
Although texts such as Sayuti, Lumah, or Makasib are valuable, none can replace the Holy Quran. This celestial book, as a remedy for soul and body alike, is distinct from all other sciences. Religious knowledge, though precious, stands before the Holy Quran like a star before the sun, whose light emanates from the radiance of this Divine Book.
The descent of angels brings not only practical aid but also joy and hearts certainty for the believers. This joy, like a cool breeze in the heat of hardship, soothes the human heart. Intimacy with the Holy Quran liberates one from sorrow, grief, and fear, guiding towards profound tranquillity.
And Allah made it not but good tidings and that your hearts might be assured thereby. And victory is not but from Allah. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.
This verse emphasises the pivotal role of the Holy Quran in establishing hearts tranquillity. Hearts certainty, like a steadfast pillar, strengthens the believer against lifes storms and guides them towards true victory, which comes from God.
The connection of the heart refers to the firmness and establishment of the heart upon Divine verses, resulting in steadfastness on the path of truth. The believers heart, like a rocket stationed on a firm base, ascends towards the Divine Throne relying on the Holy Quran. This steadfastness, akin to the roots of a mighty tree, stabilises the human being against lifes adversities.
Verse eleven of Surah Al-Anfal refers to the descent of light sleep and rain as two Divine blessings revealed for tranquillity, purification, expulsion of satanic impurity, strengthening of the heart, and steadfastness of the steps.
When He enveloped you with drowsiness as a security from Him and sent down upon you from the sky, water to purify you thereby and remove from you the evil of Satan and to bind firmly upon your hearts and firm your steps thereby.
Rain, as a heavenly mercy, not only cleanses the body but also purifies the soul and heart. Drowsiness, like a gentle wing, embraces the believer in Divine tranquillity and frees them from anxiety and distress.
In the modern world, rain is sometimes regarded as unusable due to environmental pollution. However, the Holy Quran introduces rain as a symbol of mercy and purity. This contrast acts as a mirror displaying the gap between the Quranic viewpoint and materialistic perspectives. Returning to the Quranic vision guides humanity towards appreciating Divine blessings and proper utilisation thereof.
The mere remembrance of rain, even without its physical presence, can purify the human heart and soul. This remembrance, like a breeze blowing from afar, bestows clarity and tranquillity upon the soul. From the perspective of religious psychology, invoking Divine blessings such as rain reduces stress and enhances inner peace.
In circumstances where rain is unavailable, rosewater may serve as a substitute for purification and increasing alertness. Rosewater, like a heavenly fragrance, cleanses the soul and body and heightens awareness.
Lawful sustenance, like a firm foundation, is a prerequisite for intimacy with the Holy Quran and attaining Divine knowledge. Without lawful sustenance, one cannot fully benefit from the blessings of this celestial book. This principle, akin to the root that stabilises the tree of faith, plays a central role in the life of the believer.
Religious knowledge, which should be the centre for training scholars committed to the Holy Quran, sometimes diverges from its primary mission due to material dependencies. This deviation, like a shadow cast over the light of knowledge, underscores the necessity for reform and return to Quranic principles.
The heart and steps of the believer, through intimacy with the Holy Quran, attain individual multiplicity to the extent that one believer may acquire the power equivalent to thousands. This multiplicity is like an ocean contained in a single drop, transforming the believer into a boundless force.
The believer, accompanied by Divine verses, resembles a warrior with a thousand steps and a thousand hearts. This empowerment does not stem from numerical strength but from the depth of faith and closeness to the Holy Quran. A believer, relying on this celestial book, can upheave a world and establish a new order.
Verses 9 to 11 of Surah Al-Anfal, like a radiant lamp, illuminate the path of guidance and empowerment for humanity. These verses, by elucidating concepts such as supplication, Divine response, descent of angels, and the effects of rain, depict the unparalleled status of the Holy Quran as a devotional, operational, and transformative book. Intimacy with the Holy Quran fortifies the human heart, stabilises the steps, and frees one from satanic impurities. This celestial book, like a clear spring, encompasses all that a human being requires for felicity and perfection. Returning to and living under the shadow of the Holy Quran is the path that leads humanity towards tranquillity, power, and felicity.
