Interpretation: Ibd and Ida in Divine Creation from the Perspective of the Holy Qur'an

Preface

The Holy Qur'an, like a radiant lamp, guides humanity in understanding the reality of existence and its relationship with the Creator. Among the profound concepts of this celestial book, Ibd (Origination) and Ida (Reinstatement) hold a special position as two fundamental pillars of creation and recreation. These two concepts not only refer to the initial creation and resurrection on the Day of Judgment but also unveil the wisdom, grandeur, and infinite grace of God. In this treatise, by reflecting on the verses of the Holy Qur'an, these two concepts are examined from a deep perspective with clear language. The aim is to manifest the freshness and dynamism of divine creation and its connection to ethics and human knowledge through a novel view of the verses. This work, with an organized structure and utilization of illuminating verses, strives to guide the reader towards a deeper understanding of the system of creation.

Part One: Origination and Renewal of Creation in Surah Al-A'raf

Verse 29 of Surah Al-A'raf: Freshness of Creation and Return to Justice

قُلْ أَمَرَ رَبِّي بِالْقِسْطِ ۖ وَأَقِيمُوا وُجُوهَكُمْ عِندَ كُلِّ مَسْجِدٍ وَادْعُوهُ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ ۚ كَمَا بَدَأَكُمْ تَعُودُونَ

Say: My Lord has commanded justice, and set your faces upright at every place of worship, and call upon Him, devoutly sincere in religion. Just as He began you, so shall you return.

Verse 29 of Surah Al-A'raf unfolds the reality of creation and recreation before human eyes like a luminous mirror. The term "بَدَأَكُمْ" (He began you) here refers to the initial creation of man as a novel and fresh emergence, as if God fashioned man like a newly blossomed flower from His boundless grace. The word "تَعُودُونَ" (you shall return) indicates the return to that same fresh state on the Day of Resurrectionnot merely repetition, but a vital renewal in which man returns to the Divine presence with freshness and vitality.
  • "بدأ" signifies novel origination and fresh creation, not mere coming into existence from nothingness.
  • The return on the Day of Resurrection carries the same freshness as the initial creation, demonstrating continuous Divine grace.
  • Justice and sincerity in worship are intimately linked to the purpose of creation and recreation.

This verse regards creation as a dynamic and continuous process emanating from the direct will of God. Contrary to misconceptions that degrade creation to mere ex nihilo emergence or dependence on material causes, "بدأ" here means renewal, as if God perpetually rejuvenates existence like a clear, flowing spring. This freshness prevails not only in worldly creation but also in the afterlifes recreation, where man returns to God with original purity and vitality. This view aligns with transcendent wisdom that views creation as a direct, dynamic act.

Summary of Part One

Verse 29 of Surah Al-A'raf presents creation and recreation as the two wings of a bird that guide humanity towards justice and sincerity. Emphasising the freshness and novelty of creation, the verse negates any crude notion of creation as mere emergence from nothingness and manifests continuous Divine grace in the cosmic order. The believing human, reflecting upon this verse, is invited to live with sincerity and justice, as if every moment of their life is a recreation of their primal creation.

Part Two: Creation and Recreation in Surah Yunus

Verse 4 of Surah Yunus: Divine Grace and Justice in Recreation

إِلَيْهِ مَرْجِعُكُمْ جَمِيعًا ۖ وَعْدَ اللَّهِ حَقًّا ۚ إِنَّهُ يَبْدَأُ الْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُ لِيَجْزِيَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ بِالْقِسْطِ ۚ وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَهُمْ شَرَابٌ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ وَعَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْفُرُونَ

To Him will be your return all together; the promise of Allah is true. He begins the creation, then repeats it, so that He may recompense those who believe and do righteous deeds with justice. But those who disbelieve will have a drink of boiling water and a painful punishment because of their disbelief.

This noble verse draws an exact blueprint of the system of creation and recreation. "يَبْدَأُ الْخَلْقَ" refers to initial creation, and "يُعِيدُهُ" to resurrection. The word "ثُمَّ" signifies the logical sequence between these two stages, as if creation and reinstatement are two chapters of Divine wisdom serving justice and recompense.
  • Creation and recreation arise from continuous Divine grace and serve the purpose of manifesting Divine justice.
  • "يَبْدَأُ" denotes novel origination independent of material causes or intermediaries.
  • Divine wisdom in creation and recreation negates any accidental or crude interpretations.

This verse highlights purposeful creation and recreation, portraying God as a wise gardener who creates and reinstates existence with order and management. Contrary to erroneous notions reducing creation to material or accidental processes, it emphasises direct Divine will ("كُنْ فَيَكُونُ"). The objective of recreation is the enactment of justice: the faithful receive righteous reward, while the disbelievers face just punishment.

Verse 34 of Surah Yunus: The Oneness of God in Creation and Recreation

قُلْ هَلْ مِن شُرَكَائِكُم مَّن يَبْدَأُ الْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُ ۚ قُلِ اللَّهُ يَبْدَأُ الْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُ ۚ فَأَنَّىٰ تُؤْفَكُونَ

Say: Is there any of your partners who begins creation and then repeats it? Say: It is Allah who begins creation and then repeats it. So how are you deluded?

This verse, like a sharp sword, breaks down polytheism and reveals the uniqueness of God in creation and recreation. The question concerning the ability of alleged partners to originate and recreate demonstrates the impotence of idols and false deities.
