of Nekounam, (Session 1690)
The Holy Quran, like a pure spring, presents divine knowledge to humanity through illuminating verses and opens the path of felicity and salvation before humankind. This celestial book, with profound and sagacious discourse, addresses fundamental issues of human life, including corruption, social bonds, and moral order, and offers solutions for societal reform. In this treatise, relying on the luminous Quranic verses and employing meticulous analyses, concepts such as corruption, kinship ties, and the role of social institutions in preventing or spreading corruption are examined. These reflections, articulated in clear language and with an organised structure, seek to present the profound meanings of the verses in a coherent manner suitable for the academic context.
You would see it humbled, breaking apart out of fear of Allah.
This noble verse from Surah Hud refers to the profound and transformative impact of the Holy Quran on the human heart. Fearfulness and humility before the divine verses are indicative of a deep understanding of the Qurans meanings, which protect the heart from any form of distortion or deviation. The Infallibles (peace be upon them), as the true interpreters of the Holy Quran, with the blessing of their infallibility, play an unparalleled role in extracting the latent meanings of this celestial book. They are like a steadfast rope and a pure bucket, drawing the profound knowledge of the Quran from the wellspring of divine cognition and making it accessible to humanity.
The Infallibles (peace be upon them), endowed with infallibility, elucidate the profound meanings of the Holy Quran without adding or subtracting. This role distinguishes them from other scholars, for infallibility allows access to deeper layers of Quranic knowledge. Just as a deep well cannot offer its pure water except with proper equipment, the meanings of the Quran cannot be accurately comprehended without the guidance of the Infallibles. The improper use of positive terms such as acts of worship to justify corrupt deeds is a form of spiritual distortion that the Holy Quran condemns, warning the believers heart against such deviation.
This section, focusing on a verse from Surah Hud, demonstrated the unique role of the Infallibles in expounding the knowledge of the Holy Quran. The Infallibles, by virtue of divine infallibility, extract the latent meanings of the Quran and preserve it from any distortion. Fear of Allah acts as a shield against corruption and guides the heart towards piety and reform.
And those who break Allahs covenant after ratifying it and sever that which Allah has commanded to be joined and cause corruption on earth it is those who are the cursed, and for them is the worst abode.
This noble verse from Surah Ar-Rad identifies the severance of kinship ties as one of the manifestations of corruption on earth. Kinship ties, extending beyond familial relations to include neighbours and even non-believers, act as the bonds that unite society. Severing these bonds results in social fragmentation and corruption.
Kinship ties function as a bridge connecting individuals and preventing social disintegration. This Quranic principle calls not only for maintaining family connections but also for fostering cohesion within society and even among differing communities. Severing these ties, particularly on grounds of unjust judgment or religious prejudice, leads to social disintegration and corruption. Affection and respect, even towards those differing in belief, help alleviate tensions and foster intimacy. This verse emphasises the severity of consequences for those who sever ties, denoting divine curse and wretchedness in the afterlife.
Kinship ties, as a fundamental principle in the Holy Quran, strengthen not only family connections but also social cohesion. Severance of these bonds, motivated by erroneous judgments or prejudice, exacerbates social corruption and incurs divine condemnation. This section emphasises the importance of love and intimacy in preventing corruption.
And when your Lord said to the angels, Indeed, I will make upon the earth a successive authority. They said, Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood, while we declare Your praise and sanctify You? He said, Indeed, I know that which you do not know.
Therefore We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land it is as if he had slain mankind entirely.
If there were therein gods besides Allah, both would have been ruined. So exalted is Allah, Lord of the Throne, above what they describe.
These verses introduce corruption as a tangible reality within society that disrupts both cosmic and social order. Corruption ranges from murder to the formation of corrupt factions and groups, exerting widespread influence over society and even the celestial order.
Corruption is akin to a virus that gradually infiltrates the fabric of society, disturbing its order. Verse 30 of Surah Al-Baqarah references the potential for corruption in humanity but affirms divine knowledge of human goodness. Verse 32 of Surah Al-Maidah emphasises the severity of murder and corruption, indicating that corruptions contagious nature renders it more perilous than murder alone. Verse 22 of Surah Al-Anbiya
