Interpretation: Causes, Tasbih, and Divine System in the Holy Quran

Preface

The Holy Quran, like a radiant lamp, guides humanity towards felicity and perfection. In this celestial book, concepts such as "causes" (asbb), "tasbih" (glorification), and the "Divine system" appear as interwoven strands that lead humankind to a deeper understanding of existence and its own place within it. This treatise, relying on the luminous verses of the Holy Quran, explores these concepts and examines their spiritual, social, and civilisational dimensions with clear and dignified language. Its aim is for the reader, through reflection upon these concepts, to attain comprehension of the systematisation of creation and the necessity of harmony therewith.

Part One: Causes, the Foundation of Civilisational Construction

The Concept of Causes in the Holy Quran

The term "causes" (asbb) in the Holy Quran refers to the tools, means, and causal systems through which humans achieve their material and spiritual objectives. This concept, like sturdy pillars, constitutes the foundations of civilisational construction and advancement. The Holy Quran invites humanity to utilise these causes in order to establish a dynamic and just order within society.

  • Cutting off Causes in the Hereafter: On the Day of Resurrection, worldly causes such as relatives and wealth will be severed.

Verses Related to Causes

Surah Al-Muminun, Verse 100:
وَتَقَطَّعَتْ بِهِمُ الْأَسْبَابُ
"And their causes were cut off from them."

This verse clearly states that on the Day of Resurrection, all worldly causesranging from kinship and wealth to material meanswill be taken away from man. This severance of causes indicates the end of worldly dependencies and the return of man to his existential reality.

Surah Ghafir, Verse 36:
فَابْنِ لِي صَرْحًا لَعَلِّي أَبْلُغُ الْأَسْبَابَ
"Build for me a tower that I may reach the causes."

This verse refers to Pharaohs attempt to reach the causes of the heavens. With the delusion of grasping truth through material means, he demands a magnificent structure; yet his doubt (And indeed, I think it is false) reveals the limitations of human understanding in the face of the Divine system.

Surah Al-Kahf, Verse 84:
إِنَّا مَكَّنَّا لَهُ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَآتَيْنَاهُ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ سَبَبًا
"We established him firmly upon the earth and gave him means to all things."

This verse exemplifies the prophets utilisation of causes to build civilisation. Dhul-Qarnayn, by means of technology and material tools, constructed a firm barrierdemonstrating the power of systematisation and civilisational construction through Divine causes.

Critique of Traditionalism and the Necessity of Systematisation

Traditionalism acts like a chain restricting progress, preventing Islamic societies from utilising modern causes. Religious knowledge must, with a dynamic and systematic perspective, lead to the production of knowledge and technology. Islamic society, instead of relying solely on traditional methods, must utilise causes to establish dynamic and advanced systems, just as the prophets built grand civilisations by means of causes.

Summary of Part One

Causes, like vital strands of life, guide humanity towards civilisational construction and progress. The Holy Quran, emphasising this concept, calls upon Islamic society to employ tools and causal systems to move away from backwardness and advance towards a developed civilisation. This section stresses the necessity of systematisation and distancing from traditionalism.

Part Two: Tasbih, Harmony with the System of Existence

The Concept of Tasbih in the Holy Quran

"Tasbih" in the Holy Quran goes beyond merely saying "Subhan Allah" (Glory be to God); it signifies harmony and accompaniment with the system of existence. This concept, like a flowing river, indicates the coordinated movement of beings within the Divine orbit. Tasbih portrays the systematisation of creation and invites man to synchronise with this order.

  • Meaning of Tasbih: Tasbih denotes harmony and accompaniment with the Divine system, mentioned ninety-seven times in the Quran.
  • Glorification by Creatures: All beings, from heavens and earth to birds, glorify God in coordinated motion.

  • Critique of Lack of Understanding Tasbih: Due to lack of comprehension, humans remain disconnected from the harmony of existence.

Verses Related to Tasbih

Surah An-Nur, Verse 41:
أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ يُسَبِّحُ لَهُ مَنْ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَالطَّيْرُ صَافَّاتٍ
"Have you not seen that Allah is glorified by whoever is in the heavens and the earth and by the birds with wings outspread?"

This verse beautifully illustrates that all beingsfrom birds to the heavensglorify God in a harmonious and coordinated manner. This harmony is a sign of the systematisation of creation.

Surah Al-Isra, Verse 44:
تُسَبِّحُ لَهُ السَّمَاوَاتُ السَّبْعُ وَالْأَرْضُ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ ۚ وَإِنْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلَّا يُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِهِ وَلَٰكِنْ لَا تَفْقَهُونَ تَسْبِيحَهُمْ
"The seven heavens and the earth and whatever is in them exalt Him. And there is not a thing except that it exalts Allah by His praise, but you do not understand their exaltation."

This verse emphasises humanitys lack of understanding of the glorification of creatures. Immersed in materialism, man fails to perceive this immense harmony.

Surah Al-Anbiya, Verse 79:
فَسَخَّرْنَا لَهُ الرِّيحَ تَجْرِي بِأَمْرِهِ رُخَاءً حَيْثُ أَصَابَ
"And We subjected the wind to Solomon, flowing gently wherever he directed."

This verse exemplifies tasbih and harmony wherein the wind, by the command of Prophet Solomon (peace be upon him), moves in accordance with the system of existence.

Tasbih and Human Empathy

Human tasbih manifests in love, cooperation, and solidarity with others. As a member of the body of existence, man must empathise and harmonise with other creatures and humans. This empathy, like a clear spring, nourishes social life and prevents discord and enmity.

Summary of Part Two

Tasbih, like a transparent mirror, reflects the systematisation and harmony of creation. By grasping this concept, humans must proceed on the path of the Divine system through empathy and cooperation. This section stresses the necessity of harmony with the system of existence and avoidance of division.

Part Three: The Divine System and Social Harmony

The Divine System in the Holy Quran

The Divine system, like a fruitful garden, brings order and harmony to creation and society. This system is founded upon tasbih and causes, and it calls upon humans to advance towards a dynamic and just society through love and cooperation.

  • System and Tasbih: The Divine system is based on tasbih and harmony, standing opposed to corruption and discord.
  • Social Empathy: Islamic society must achieve an orderly system through love and cooperation.

Verses Related to the Divine System

Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 30:
قَالُوا أَتَجْعَلُ فِيهَا مَن يُفْسِدُ فِيهَا وَيَسْفِكُ الدِّمَاءَ وَنَحْنُ نُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِكَ
"They said, Will You place therein one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood, while we glorify with praise Your name?"

This verse depicts the conflict between corruption and tasbih. The angels, with their glorification and harmony, oppose human corruption and discord.

Surah Ghafir, Verse 7:
الَّذِينَ يَحْمِلُونَ الْعَرْشَ وَمَنْ حَوْلَهُ يُسَبِّحُونَ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّهِمْ وَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَ لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا
"Those who carry the Throne and those around it exalt [Allah] with praise of their Lord and believe in Him and ask forgiveness for those who have believed."

This verse illustrates the angels intercession for believers, while humans are urged to enhance this trait through empathy.

Critique of Discord and Necessity of Empathy

Discord, like a burning fire, disintegrates the body of society. Religious knowledge, instead of traditional isolationism, must, through modern and systematic education, contribute to the production of knowledge and technology. Islamic society can attain a dynamic and just order through empathy and cooperation.

The Divine system, like a guiding light, illuminates the path towards a harmonious and dynamic society. This section emphasises the necessity of empathy and avoidance of discord and calls upon religious knowledge to assist societal progress through a modern perspective.

The Holy Quran, like an infinite ocean, encompasses concepts such as causes, tasbih, and the Divine system. Causes are the tools of civilisational construction that guide humanity towards progress. Tasbih signifies harmony with the system of existence, requiring humans to move within the Divine orbit through love and cooperation. The Divine system, emphasising harmony and avoidance of discord, delineates a dynamic and just society. Religious knowledge, as a luminous torch, must aid in the realisation of these objectives through modern education. This treatise, by exploring these concepts, provides valuable guidance for creating a harmonious and advanced society.
