Preface

This book, relying upon the luminous verses of the Holy Qur'an and reflecting on the discourses of religious scholars, examines three fundamental axes: the foreign policy of the Prophets, the divine nature of human beings, and the position of laughter and weeping within the cosmic order. This work, with a profound and multifaceted perspective, endeavours to present Qur'anic concepts in an eloquent and dignified language, structured scientifically and coherently for erudite readers. Each section of this composition, inspired by the verses and traditions, elucidates the principles of divine guidance and, by linking these concepts to contemporary necessities, proposes strategies for reconstructing the intellectual and practical systems of Islamic societies. This writing, akin to a deep ocean, invites the reader to contemplate truth and, with a novel view of the verses, delineates a clear path for a deeper understanding of religion.

Part One: The Foreign Policy of the Prophets and Reliance on the Origin of the Universe

Foundation of the Foreign Policy of the Prophets: Reliance upon the Origin of the Universe

The foreign policy of the Prophets, contrary to worldly approaches based on material powers and apparent facilities, is rooted in connection with the origin of the universe. This policy, rather than comparing external capabilities with enemies, emphasises divine sovereignty and is therefore free from any form of syncretism, hypocrisy, and tension. The Prophets, relying on this origin, present a message to the world that instils fear of God in hearts, not fear of material resources. This approach resembles a light that shines from the summit of truth and illuminates the path of guidance.

From a mystical perspective, this policy guides humans towards reliance and avoidance of self-conceit. Psychologically, this approach strengthens tranquility and assurance in society, for its basis is divine omnipotence. Sociologically, this policy promotes unity and solidarity against external adversaries. The Prophets, emphasising La hukma illa lillah (There is no rule except Gods) and La shaya illa min Allah (Nothing comes except from God), allude to the comprehensiveness of monotheism in politics and stress the necessity of revisiting Islamic foreign policy to reflect divine sovereignty.

Goal of the Prophetic Mission: Justice and Tranquillity

Verse:
Laqad arsala rusulana bil-bayyinati wa anzalna maahumul kitaba wal mizan liyaqooman nasu bil-qist.

Translation:
Indeed, We have sent Our Messengers with clear proofs and sent down with them the Scripture and the Balance that the people may establish justice.

The ultimate aim of the Prophetic mission is to establish justice and equity and to create public tranquillity. The phrase liyaqooman nasu bil-qist indicates that the Prophets mission is not adventurism or tension, but reform and equilibrium in society. This goal is like a seed sown in the soil of human nature, bearing the fruit of justice and tranquillity. Mystically, justice is the balance in the cosmic order which the Prophets actualise. Psychologically, this aim helps reduce anxiety and tension in society. Sociologically, justice lays the foundation for social fairness and cohesion.

Unlike worldly policies that create crises and tension to resolve problems, the Prophets, relying on the origin of the universe, open a smooth path for societal reform. This approach demonstrates the necessity to emulate the Prophets method in foreign policy and stresses the importance of reconstructing Islamic policy based on Quranic principles.

Methods of Prophetic Invitation: Wisdom, Good Admonition, and the Best Disputation

Verse:
Udu ila sabeeli rabbika bil hikmah wal mawizhati al hasanati wa jadilhum bial lati hiya ahsan.

Translation:
Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good admonition, and argue with them in the best manner.

The method of the Prophetic invitation rests upon three principles: wisdom for the people of reasoning, good admonition for those in need of advice, and the best disputation for those given to argument. These methods, like three branches of a mighty tree, are free from tension and crisis, focusing on guidance and reform. Wisdom is like a light illuminating reason; good admonition is a breeze drawing the heart towards truth; and the best disputation is a bridge opening the way for dialogue amidst disagreement.

From a mystical viewpoint, these methods gently lead humans towards divine truth. Psychologically, these approaches reduce psychological resistance and facilitate acceptance. Sociologically, they assist in creating constructive discourse in society. The comparison of these methods with the story of Moses (fazuhohunna, ahjuruhunna, idhribuhunna) indicates the balance and suitability in the Prophets methods and stresses the necessity of teaching these principles in religious academic systems.

Difference between the Policy of the Prophets and Worldly Policies

The policy of the Prophets, unlike worldly policies which are influenced by changing desires and interests, is constant and based on divine truth. Worldly policies are like waves that shift with every breeze, but the policy of the Prophets, like a firm mountain, springs from the origin of the universe. The Prophets speak from the position of divine authority and are free from hypocrisy and syncretism.

Key Point: The stability of the Prophets policy stems from their connection with the origin of the universe and is free from the instability and hypocrisy prevalent in worldly politics.

Mystically, this stability results from the bond with divine truth. Psychologically, this approach fosters trust and confidence in society. Sociologically, this policy contributes to reducing tension and creating unity. The critique of worldly policies based on transient interests underlines the need to reconstruct Islamic foreign policy on Quranic principles.

Creating Crisis Among Enemies: An Active Strategy in Foreign Policy

Islamic foreign policy, instead of passive defence, should bring tranquillity to the Islamic community by creating crises among enemies. This strategy, supported by the supplication Allahumma ashghil al-zalimeena bil-zalimeen (O God, preoccupy the oppressors with each other), indicates an active approach against enemies. This method, like a chess player making an intelligent move, cornering the enemy and opening the field for advancing divine objectives.
